A Premier Cell Therapy Conference | Professor Yu Yanqiu Participates in the Launch of The Theory and Practice of Cell Therapy
“Empowering Cell Therapy, Serving a Healthy China.” From June 15 to 16, the “2024 China Cell and Immunotherapy Emerging Productivity Development Xi’an Forum,” jointly held with the 2nd Shaanxi Association of Research-Oriented Hospitals Cell Therapy Committee Academic Conference and the launch ceremony for the new book The Theory and Practice of Cell Therapy, took place at the Xi’an International Medical Center Hospital. Professor Yu Yanqiu, serving as an editorial board member of the newly released publication, was invited to attend the event.
Over 300 leading experts and scholars from across the country convened to exchange insights on the frontiers of cell therapy, collectively advancing China’s emerging productive power in this domain. The forum served as a catalyst to accelerate the translation of cell therapy products from the laboratory bench to clinical bedside, representing a milestone in the field’s development.
In addition, The Theory and Practice of Cell Therapy, overseen by Academicians Wang Fusheng and Wei Yuquan and edited by Professors Jia Zhansheng and Chen Zhi, was unveiled at the forum. This comprehensive volume systematically covers the latest knowledge in the field, spanning foundational theories, cutting-edge technologies, and clinical applications. Its creation involved nearly two decades of collaboration and revision by basic scientists and clinical experts, both domestic and international.

During the “Academician Forum” that followed, Academicians Fan Daiming, Wang Fusheng, and Chen Zhinan addressed key themes: “New Perspectives in Tumor Classification,” “Clinical Research Advances in Cell Therapy for Major Infectious Diseases,” and “Features and Progress in the Age of Biopharmaceuticals.” Their presentations offered participants fresh insights into the clinical practice and prospective applications of cell therapy, drawing on real-world case studies, cutting-edge research, and emerging breakthroughs.
Professor Yu Yanqiu—Chairperson of Shenyang Cell Center, Associate Director of the Pathophysiology Department at the College of Basic Medical Sciences of China Medical University, and a leading expert in stem cells and regenerative medicine—was invited to deliver a special presentation on “The Supporting Role of Regional Cell Preparation and R&D Center Platforms in Clinical Cell Therapy Technologies.” As a member of the editorial board for The Theory and Practice of Cell Therapy, Professor Yu’s talk attracted significant interest and discussion among the attending experts.
Shenyang Cell Center’s invitation as the sole enterprise representative from Northeastern China underscores its leadership in the regional cell industry. The center’s cell technology meets internationally advanced standards, and its core technologies have passed ISO9001 (2015) international quality management system certification. In 2021, the center obtained AABB accreditation—regarded as the highest global standard—and became the world’s tenth institution to hold dual AABB certification for both umbilical cord blood and adult stem cells. In September 2023, Shenyang Cell Center passed its AABB re-assessment with zero deficiencies. Across more than 600 evaluated technical checkpoints—covering cell storage, preparation, and clinical distribution—the center met international benchmarks, ensuring cell quality in terms of quantity, viability, purity, and function.
The 21st century marks a transformative era for the rapid emergence of new productive capacities in cell therapy, opening unprecedented avenues for improving human health. This conference offered visionary guidance from academicians, policy interpretations from national stem cell clinical research experts, cutting-edge updates in foundational research and clinical applications, as well as invaluable industry translation experiences. With its wealth of highlights, the event stood as a truly remarkable academic exchange. The overarching objective was to establish a platform for scholarly interaction, integrate the latest cell science and technologies into clinical practice, and propel the development of new productive capabilities in cell therapy—ultimately serving the vision of a healthier China.
